Leeds Art Gallery workshops
To coincide with the inclusion of the Feeding Chair in the Found Cities, Lost Objects exhibition at Leeds Art Gallery, curated by Lubaina Himid CBE, we will be running a series of workshops to collectively create a floor flag manifesto for care and feeding, including breastfeeding, in Leeds City Centre.
Whilst flags are typically hoisted on a pole and flown in the air as a symbol of identity, unity or allegiance, our floor flag will invite people to interact with it on a more intimate level. It will be a space for expressing alternative narratives, values and perspectives that challenge the status quo and promote our collective visions for a more caring city centre. The floor flag will form the centrepiece for a public event, where we will share our ideas with city councillors and policymakers.
The workshops have been developed by design researcher Sally Sutherland and graphic designer Vicky Carr of Textbook Studio and are informed by Sally’s PhD research about Design and Public Breastfeeding at the University of Brighton. They are funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), University of Brighton, Arts Council England and Leeds Art Gallery.
Drop into Leeds Art Gallery between 11am and 3pm on Wed 10th – Sat 13th April to take part.
