Creative workshops in Scarborough

During November 2024, poet Charlotte Oliver will be hosting drop-in creative workshops at Scarborough Art Gallery, exploring people’s experiences of breast, chest and bottle-feeding in public. Participants will be encouraged to distil their thoughts and feelings about the subject down to a few words to write onto a breast badge, which they design and make themselves. The conversations will be used to create a soundscape, which will include poetry and accompany the Feeding Chair when it is hosted at Woodend Gallery in Spring 2025.

Charlotte Oliver is an Ilkley Literature Festival New Northern Poet 2023 and was recently Lead Artist for the Yorkshire Coast on national schools’ project, Spoken Word Power 2024. Published widely in journals and anthologies including Candlestick Press’ Christmas Walks publication, she has placed in a number of competitions including second in Wirral Poetry Prize, the Patricia Eschen Poetry Prize 2022 and Wetherby Festival Poetry Competition. Her debut pamphlet is How To Be A Dressing Gown (Dreich). Poetry commissions include work for the BBC and North Yorkshire Moors National Park. She has appeared on R4’s Front Row, was Festival Poet for Big Ideas by the Sea 2024 and is currently Poet in Residence at Scarborough’s historic South Cliff Gardens.
